Registered Heritage Structure Maintenance Grants

Registered Heritage Structure Maintenance Grants may be awarded to Registered Heritage Structures for the general maintenance of exterior elements previously funded under the Restoration Grant program. They are intended for such work as painting, minor repairs to clapboard, trim, windows and/or doors and minor work to chimneys and roofs. 

Registered Heritage Structures applying for a Maintenance Grant must already have an easement in place. 

Properties are eligible only after a minimum of five years have elapsed since the last payment of a grant for that property.

The maximum amount that may be allocated is $5,000 per structure. All grants are awarded on a 30/70 basis. The possible maximum project breakdown is as follows:

  • Project total = $16,667 maximum
  • Applicant's contribution at 70% = $11,667 maximum
  • Maintenance grant at 30% = $5,000 maximum

There is no fixed deadline for submitting Registered Heritage Structure Maintenance Grant applications.

NOTE: Registered Heritage Structures do not automatically receive maintenance grants. A Registered Heritage Structure Maintenance Grant application must be submitted with all noted documentation and the application approved PRIOR to any work being undertaken. Work completed prior to approval of the maintenance grant application is not eligible for funding.
